The Biotechnology Department was created by the Order of the Rector of NAU in 2004 based on of the Department of Ecology, as a structural subdivision of the Faculty of Ecology and Design of the National Aviation University. The head of the department was Doctor of Technical Sciences, Professor Kysla Lyubov Vasylivna. A great contribution to the development of the Biotechnology Department was made by Candidate of Technical Sciences, Associate Professor Chuguy V. О., who has been acting as Deputy Head of the Department since 2006. She was the initiator of the creation of an English-language project in the field of “Biotechnology”.
From September 2008 to June 2019, the department was headed by Doctor of Biological Sciences Kateryna G. Garkava.
From July 2019 to June 2021, the department was headed by Doctor of Agricultural Sciences, Professor Mykhailo M. Baranovskyi.
From July 2021 to June 2024, the department was headed by Doctor of Biological Sciences Kateryna G. Garkava again.
Today, the department trains specialists in specialty 162 “Biotechnology and Bioengineering” of educational levels “Bachelor” and “Master” in educational and professional programs “Pharmaceutical Biotechnology” and “Environmental Biotechnology and Bioenergy”.
